freshwater fishing licence

general knowledge about freshwater fishing in louisiana?

my family is taking a trip to louisiana, around the Baton Rouge area.
if anyone has any info on fishing down there, it would be great. mainly, im looking for what you need to be legal (license), what common fish are found in the freshwater areas, big regulations, & if there are seasons on the fish.
any help would be great, thanks!

The Baton Rouge rivers & estuary’s have a nice mix of Freshwater and Saltwater fish including:

Freshwater- Largemouth Bass, Crappie, Bluegill, Warmouth, Catfish, Gar, Mudfish, Etc.

Saltwater- Redfish, Spec Trout, Flounder, Sand Trout, Sheephead, Sailors Choice, Etc.

Expect to have the chance of catching a wide variety of fish species from one cast to another. (It’s not unusual in “brackish waters” to catch a Redfish right next to a Largemouth Bass or Flounder.)

This makes for a very interesting fishing day!

Your “best bet” (this time of year) is probably Spec Trout and Redfish. In “fresher” waters Crappie would be another good fish to target. And the Cat-fishing in most regions in LA is usually fantastic!

Here is a site that will give you all the rules & regs you need:

http://www.wlf.state.la.us/fishing/recreational/saltwater/regulations/

Hope this helps? Good luck on your trip.
