Garmin FishFinder 160C

is this good for offshore?
i want to buy the garmin fishfinder 160c and in the description it says great for freshwater lakes, but i will only use it for saltwater, mainly offshore. and its depth rating is 900′ but the frequency range is 200 khz and has a 14/45 degree angles. can i still use it for saltwater? or is it no good for what i want to use it for.
The 160c will work for you. I am not impressed by the 160c’s display, but it is usable and will work in salt water. The dual beam transducer gives you a good look right under the boat with the 14degrees and you can look at more area around the boat with the 45 degree setting.
You may want to spend a few dollars more and get the Fishfinder 300C, 240 x 320 pixels and a 2.1″ x 2.8″ screen compared to the 160C’s 128 x 128 pixels 3.2″ x 3.2″ screen.- less pixels but larger screen means less resolution.
I suggest you go to a store and look at the displays, do not buy on price alone because you will then be stuck with it and may not be happy.
Good Luck – Boat Safe!
