What raincoat or jacket best keeps you warm too?

Rain’s the main issue — we’re talking B.C. coast. But we get some freezing cold and snow, sometimes with rain the same day, and plenty of wind. I guess sandwiching is best: some outer shell, some wicking layer next to my skin, and whatever layers in between. Should it have a hood, or would some rain hat work good enough?

So: what brand(s) do the outer job best? An MEC jacket? Pearl? North Face? Marmot? Red Ledge? Cabela? I’d like to wear it for the occasional half-day hike in the rain. But it also should look good enough to wear walking to a party or restaurant in town.

Fleece on the inside, synthetic vinyl on the outside… you know, like a snow coat.
